Who might benefit from Subject Knowledge Enhancement?
This can help when you have (one or more of the following):
- finished your degree more than 5 years ago
- a different but related degree to the subject you want to teach
- an A level but not a degree in the subject you want to teach
- an unrelated degree but relevant professional experience
- studied for a languages degree, but need to develop a second language to an acceptable level for teaching in schools
DFE-funded SKE subjects
SKE courses funded by the DFE are available in 5 secondary subjects for 2026-27:
- Chemistry [April 26 - now closed]
- Computing
- Mathematics
- Modern Foreign Languages
- Physics
VNHTT in-house SKE courses
In secondary subjects without a DFE-funded SKE option, when needed we set up our own pre-course in-house SKE courses to help give new recruits the knowledge and confidence to hit the ground running in September.
