What do our interns say?

It has been an amazing 3 weeks. I got the opportunity to teach multiple lessons and made the step to teaching my first at my own pace. Also I got the opportunity to be involved in PSHE, teamwork challenge day, sports day and other form activities. The staff have been extremely welcoming and enthusiastic towards me and the other interns; they’ve been so encouraging when it came to lesson planning and starters and so helpful. The students as well were so welcoming and respectful. Training sessions have given a glimpse into the life of a teacher and shown many aspects you would never think about, from the way you address behaviour to directing questions. All in all, this is a great internship for hopeful teachers and those who would like a look into what the career would be like.

KB, Intern, summer 2022

I enjoyed every second of the internship. It gave a true insight into exactly what it means to teach. The staff were all supportive and eager to help and encouraged you to get stuck in and try work towards teaching your own lesson. You didn't have any unnecessary pressure to achieve something. It was all at your own pace, making it calming and a truly fulfilling experience. The school itself opens your eyes to the vastness of inclusivity and diversity. Especially when I compare it to the school I went to, there is so much support here for the students and you truly had time to make proper relationships with some students and they welcomed you. It was just a place that you truly can fall in love with and makes you feel empowered to teach and inspire the next generation to achieve great things.

JC, Intern, summer 2022

The internship was extremely beneficial for me to decide whether I would be interested in becoming a teacher or not. I have become more likely to become a teacher since starting the internship, but even if that isn’t the case for everyone it gives a very good insight into different aspects of teacher life. The staff have been welcoming and encouraging, giving productive feedback and advice when necessary. The programme is fast-paced and well-organised. The three weeks flew by.

St Mary's College - a very special place

This internship offers you the chance to spend three weeks in a very special school where you can help make a real difference to young people's lives.  St Mary's College is a vibrant and diverse Catholic school, with a large sixth form.   Life here is exciting and varied.  The school takes pupils from across Hull and the East Riding.  There are significant numbers of students from disadvantaged backgrounds, and those for whom English is not their first language as well as high numbers of pupils with special educational needs.  Despite being a very large school, we pride ourselves on our high levels of pastoral care and inclusivity.

Why not come and join us for three weeks and see for yourself?  You never know - you might love it! Some of our former interns have gone on to complete teacher training with us and now work here as teachers.

I would 100% recommend this internship to anyone who is considering a career in teaching. Amazing staff and students, and a great programme to help you get the knowledge, tools and experience within a classroom. Knowledgeable staff, well behaved students make this an overall wonderful three week internship. I would definitely do the internship every summer if I could!
