Our programme is built on the principles of being Inclusive, Informed, Intentional and Impactful, ensuring that trainees develop not only strong teaching skills but also a deep professional commitment to equity and social justice. We recognise that great teachers come from many different backgrounds and we actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly those from groups that are under-represented in the teaching profession. Our aim is to create a welcoming, supportive training environment where all trainees feel safe, valued and able to succeed, and where differences in experience, perspective and identity are recognised as strengths within our learning community.
We are committed to removing barriers and ensuring that everyone has fair access to teacher training. Our recruitment processes comply fully with the Equality Act 2010, and we are happy to make reasonable adjustments to support applicants throughout the application and interview process. Once on the programme, trainees benefit from a strong network of support including mentors, tutors and our dedicated Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Justice (EDIJ) Lead, who works with trainees and schools to ensure that inclusive practice is embedded across training, mentoring and placement experiences. Through our curriculum and professional development programme, trainees learn how to create inclusive classrooms, understand the needs of diverse learners, and confidently challenge discrimination or prejudice where it occurs.
We are also committed to continually improving our provision through evidence, trainee voice and partnership working. We monitor recruitment, progress and outcomes across the trainee journey to identify and address any barriers to participation or success, and trainees contribute directly to the evaluation and development of our programme. Working closely with our partnership schools, we ensure that placements provide safe, respectful and inclusive environments where trainees are supported to thrive as emerging professionals. Through these commitments, we aim not only to support diverse trainee teachers, but also to prepare them to become advocates for equality, dignity and opportunity for all pupils.
