Well-being is embedded in the structure of the programme through weekly mentor meetings, regular review points, and access to professional tutors who provide both academic and pastoral guidance. Trainees are also supported through trained Mental Health First Aiders, signposting to external counselling services, and clear and confidential routes for raising concerns. Alongside this, mental health awareness and resilience strategies are integrated into core training so that trainees develop practical approaches to managing workload, stress and professional growth.
Our curriculum and programme design also actively promote sustainable working practices. Teaching responsibilities are introduced gradually across the year, protected time is provided for planning and reflection, and trainees are given practical tools, resources and templates to reduce unnecessary workload. A strong sense of community is fostered through collaborative training sessions, peer support networks and trainee Well-being Representatives who help organise activities and gather feedback. Together, these structures ensure trainees feel valued, supported and included as members of both their placement schools and the wider Vantage community, enabling them to develop resilience, confidence and a strong professional identity as they progress into their teaching careers.
